Carrot Rice – கேரட் சாதம்


  • Rice – 250g
  • Carrots – 3
  • Red onion – 1
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Green chilly – 1
  • Red dry chillies – 3
  • Peanuts – 1 tbsp
  • Fresh Coconut – 1
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 25-30 minutes

  1. Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 400 ml water for 30 minutes and cook it then transfer into a plate and keep aside
  2. Remove water from fresh coconut, grate it and save it in a bowl and keep aside
  3. Chop onion and green chilly, coriander leaves then grate the carrots and keep aside
  4. Take a pan add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, fry coriander seeds till crackle, 3 dry chillies, peanuts till become brown, grated coconut till become light brown.
  5. Fry them separately then grind them coarsely and keep this toss masala aside
  6. Heat up a pan with 2 tsp oil and add mustard seeds followed by cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal and curry leaves
  7. Fry them for 1 minutes then add onions and green chillies
  8. And Saute them for 3 minutes till onion become golden brown
  9. Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, grated carrot and salt and saute for 3 minutes
  10. Toss the cooked rice and mix it well then add the toss masala for the crunchy flavour
  11. Finally garnish the rice with coriander leaf
  12. Now the Carrot rice is ready for serve
