Coriander Rice – கொத்தமல்லி சாதம்


  • Coriander leaves – 150g
  • Rice – 250g
  • Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Sesame seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Small Onion – 3
  • Turmeric powder – A pinch
  • Ginger – 1/6
  • Garlic cloves – 1
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 30-35 minutes

  1. Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 380ml water for 30 minutes, add salt, cook it then transfer it into a bowl and keep aside
  2. Slice onion lengthwise, chop ginger, garlic finely, chop coriander leaves, chop green chillies and keep aside
  3. Heat a pan, add oil after oil heated up, add chana dal followed by urad dal
  4. Once dals become golden, add coriander seeds, sesame seeds and fry for 2 minutes
  5. Then green chillies, required salt and fry for 1 minute
  6. Then add ginger, garlic, turmeric powder and fry for 1 minutes
  7. Add coriander leaves and curry leaves and fry them for 3 minutes
  8. Take a blender and add fried ingredients and 50ml water and grind them like a paste and keep aside
  9. Take a pan, add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds
  10. Once it crackle, add onion and saute till onion become golden then add coriander paste and saute them for 2 minutes
  11. Then add cooked rice and stir it well in low flame for 3 minutes
  12. Finally turn off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves for nice look
  13. Now the greenish Coriander rice is ready for serve
