Garlic Rice – பூண்டு சாதம்


  • Rice – 250g
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Red Onion – 1
  • Ginger – 1/4
  • Garlic cloves – 50
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Coconut – 1/2
  • Lemon – 1
  • Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 30-35 minutes

  1. Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 380ml water for 30 minutes and cook it transfer it into a bowl and keep aside
  2. Slice onion lengthwise, grate coconut take the juice from lemon, chop the garlic, slice the green chilli, chop ginger finely and keep aside
  3. Grind ginger and garlic like paste and keep aside
  4. Take a pan, add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds
  5. Then add onions and salt and saute it till onion become golden
  6. Add green chillies, curry leaves and saute it for a minute
  7. Then add garlic paste and saute it for 5 minutes
  8. Then add pepper powder, coconut and lemon juice and mix it for 1 minute
  9. After that add cooked rice and mix them well for 3 minutes in low flame
  10. Turn off the flame and transfer it into a bowl
  11. Now the crunchy Garlic rice is ready for serve
