Mango Rice – மாங்காய் சாதம்


  • Rice – 250 g
  • Mango – 1
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Dry chillies – 2
  • Curry leaves – Required
  • Coriander leaves – Required
  • Oil – Required
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad dhal – 1 tbsp
  • Bengal gram dhal – 2 tbsp
  • Peanauts – 2 tbsp
  • Ginger – 1

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 20-25 minutes

  1. Grate the mango, chop coriander leaves, mince ginger, chop green chillies separately and keep aside
  2. Remove the skin of peanuts then take a pan and fry peanuts without oil for 2 minutes and keep aside
  3. Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 380ml water for 30 minutes and cook it then transfer into a bowl and keep aside
  4. Take a pan add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, add mustard seeds.
  5. Once it crackles, add urad dhal followed by bengal gram dhal, asafoetida
  6. Fry them for 2 minutes till the dals become golden
  7. Then add 1 tsp minced ginger, green chillies, red chilli, curry leaves
  8. Fry it for 2 minutes, add turmeric powder mix it well.
  9. Add grated mango and fry it for 10 second to avoid loosing mango’s flavor and then add salt and mix it
  10. Add cooked rice and mix it well for 5 minutes
  11. Then add fried peanuts into rice and mix it well
  12. Finally sprinkle coriander leaves
  13. Now the Mango rice is ready for serve
