Mint Rice – புதினா சாதம்


  • Mint leaves – 200g
  • Corinader leaves – 100g
  • Rice – 250g
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Small Onion – 2
  • Small tomato – 1/2
  • Turmeric Powder – A pinch
  • Gren Chillies – 6
  • Ginger – 1/4
  • Garlic cloves – 3
  • Cinnamon – 2
  • Cloves – 2
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 30-35 minutes

  1. Wash rice cleanly then soak it in 380ml water for 30 minutes, add salt, cook it transferred into a bowl and keep aside
  2. Slice onion lengthwise, chop the tomatoes, slice the green chillies, chop mint leaves, chop coriander leaves and keep aside
  3. Take a pan, add 1 tsp oil once oil heats up, add cumin seeds, ginger and garlic
  4. Then add tomato and green chillies and saute it till tomato become mushy
  5. Then add coriander leaves, mint leaves and curry leaves and saute it till the leaves become small
  6. Turn off the flame and once it cool down, add some water and grind them like a paste and keep aside
  7. Take a pan, add some oil then add cinnamon, cloves and bay leaf
  8. Then add onion and saute till become golden
  9. Then add a pinch of turmeric powder and fry it for 10 seconds
  10. After that add mint paste and fry them for 2 minutes
  11. Add cooked rice into the pan and mix well for 2 minutes in low flame
  12. Turn off the flame and garnish with mint leaves for nice look
  13. Now the greenish Mint rice is ready for serve
