Onion Chutney – வெங்காய சட்னி


  • Red Onions – 2
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 2 tbsp
  • Garlic – 3 cloves
  • Red Chillies – 4
  • Garlic clove – 1
  • Tamarind – A tiny ball
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – Required
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 10-20 minutes

  1. Completely add 100ml water and dissolve the tamarind ball using your hand, filter it, save the syrup and keep aside
  2. Chop the onions, chop the garlic and keep aside
  3. Take a pan, add some oil once oil heats up, add cumin seeds
  4. Once splutter, add urad dal, chana dal then add 3 red chillies
  5. Once the dals become golden, add onions and saute for 2 minutes
  6. Then add garlic and curry leaves and saute till onion become golden brown
  7. Turn off the flame and make the oil fried ingredients cool down
  8. After cool down completely, add them to a blender
  9. Grind them well for 1 minutes in high speed after that pour the tamarind syrup and salt
  10. Blend them like a paste and add another 100ml water
  11. Blend them for a minute till it reach the think water consistency, transferred into a bowl and keep aside
  12. Now a pan, heat 2 tsp oil afer that add mustard seeds
  13. Once mustard crackle, add 1/2 tsp urad dal, red chillies and curry leaves
  14. Fry it for 1 minutes, then add this tempering to the onion chutney
  15. Now the delicious Onion Chutney is ready for serve
