Quinoa Upma


  • Quinoa – 250g
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Red onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Carrot – 1
  • French beans – 6
  • Green peas – 50g
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Ginger – 1/2
  • Garlic cloves – 6
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • curry leaves – Few
  • Ghee – Required
  • Salt – Required
  • Oil – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes

  1. Wash Quinoa thoroughly and drain the water and keep aside
  2. Chop onions, tomatoes, grate ginger, slit green chillies, chop carrots, chop french beans, chop coriander leaves and keep them aside separately
  3. Take a pan and heat 2 tsp oil and 1 tsp ghee then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds once it crackle add urad dal, chana dal, red chillies
  4. Once dals become golden, add onion and green chillies, curry leaves and fry them till become golden brown
  5. Then add tomato and turmeric powder, ginger, asafoetida and saute till tomato become mushy
  6. Then add carrots, green peas, french beans and salt and saute them, close the lid and cook them for 5 minutes
  7. Add 350 ml water and boil them for 5 minutes
  8. Add quinoa seeds and salt and stir it 2 twice then close the lid and allow them to cook for 5 minutes in low flame
  9. After water drained out, turn off the flame, sprinkle coriander leaves
  10. Now the delicious Quinoa Upma is ready for serve
