Rava Upma


  • Semolina – 250g
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Small onions – 10
  • Tomatoes – 2
  • Ginger – 1/2
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Carrot – 1
  • French Beans – 6
  • Curd – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Red chillies – 2
  • Coriander leaves – Few
  • curry leaves – Few
  • Ghee – Required
  • Salt – Required
  • Oil – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes

  1. Take a pan and add 2 tsp ghee and 1 tsp oil, once ghee melts and heated up, add semolina
  2. And fry till it become brownish in medium flame, turn off the flame and transferred this into a plate and keep aside
  3. Chop onions, tomatoes, grate ginger, slit green chillies, chop carrots, chop french beans, chop coriander leaves and keep them aside separately
  4. Take a pan and heat oil then add mustard seeds, once it crackle add urad dal, chana dal, red chillies
  5. Once dals become golden, add onion and green chillies, curry leaves and fry them till become golden brown
  6. Then add tomatoes and salt and saute them till it become mushy
  7. After that add asafoetida, ginger and saute them for 1 minute
  8. Then add carrots, french beans, curd and cook them for 3 minutes
  9. Finally pour 250ml water and close the lid and boil them for 2 minutes
  10. Open the lid, add the roasted rava gradually and stir it well to avoid lumps
  11. Stir the rava continuously for 5 minutes till water drains out
  12. Close the lid and allow them to cook for another 5 minutes in low flame
  13. Open the lid and stir and mix the rava upma nicely
  14. Turn off the flame and finally sprinkle coriander leaves
  15. Now the delicious Rava Upma is ready for serve
