Tomato Chutney – தக்காளி சட்னி


  • Tomatoes – 3
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chillies – 4
  • Garlic clove – 2
  • Small onions – 2
  • Peppercorns – 3
  • Ginger – 1/8
  • Mustard seeds – 3/4 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • Curry leaves – Required
  • Oil – Required
  • Salt – Required

How to Prepare

Total Preparation Time: 10-20 minutes

  1. Chop tomatoes, chop onions, grate ginger, chop the garlic and keep aside
  2. Take a pan, add some oil once oil heats up, add cumin seeds
  3. Once splutter, add urad dal, fenugreek then add 3 red chillies, peppercorns, curry leaves
  4. Once the dal become golden, add garlic, ginger, asafoetida
  5. Then add onion and saute for 2 minutes till it become golden brown
  6. After that add tomatoes, salt and saute it till become mushy
  7. Turn off the flame and make the oil fried ingredients cool down
  8. After cool down completely, add them to a blender
  9. Grind them well for 1 minutes in high speed
  10. Blend them like a paste and add another 100ml water
  11. Blend them for a minute till it reach the think water consistency, then transferred into a bowl and keep aside
  12. Now a pan, heat 2 tsp oil after that add mustard seeds
  13. Once mustard crackle, add 1/2 tsp urad dal, red chillies
  14. Fry it for 1 minutes, then add this tempering into the prepared tomato chutney
  15. Now the colourful Tomato Chutney is ready for serve
