Tomato Rice – தக்காளி சாதம்


  • Cooked rice – 250g
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 4
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Red onion – 1
  • Juicy tomatoes – 5
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – Required
  • Coriander leaves – Few

How to Prepare

Total Preparation time: 15-20 minutes

  1. Chop the green chillies and chop the tomatoes, onion
  2. Then heats up the pan and add oil
  3. After oil heated up, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds
  4. Once it crackle, add chana dal, urad dal
  5. Fry it for 2 minutes till they turn golden
  6. Add green chillies and curry leaves then add chopped onion
  7. Saute for 3 minutes then add turmeric powder and chilli powder
  8. Mix it for 1 minute then add chopped tomatoes
  9. Mix it well and close the pan for 3 minutes
  10. Cook it well till the oil comes out from the tomato masala
  11. Mix the cooked rice with the tomato masala very well
  12. Finally, sprinkle the coriander leaves
  13. Now the tomato rice is ready to serve
